Hooka Sheesha  and Shisha pipes

There are so many different names for this unique smoking device. Some call it a hookah, hooka, shesha, huka, nargile, narghile, shisha, shesha, sheesha, nargila, or shishah. The HOOKAH (NARGILE as it is known in the Middle East) has been the standard of smoking for centuries in the middle east and originated in Turkey over 500 years ago. HUBBLY BUBBLY smoking is quite common at restaurants and cafes all across the middle east.
This unique smoking experience is rapidly growing in popularity all over the world. Many people prefer HOOKAH or HOOKA smoking to cigarettes and cigars because of the smooth, flavorful, and cool taste of the smoke. Many of our customers swear after trying the HOOKAH (arabic name is NARGILE) that they will never go back to cigarettes or cigars. HOOKAH (sometimes called SHEESHA) pipes filter the flavored smoke with cool water making each puff oh so sweet!!

We offer a range of 3 Sheesha smoking pipes, small, medium and large.

The small Hooka pipe measures 44cm high (18") with a diameter of approx 12cm. The pipe is 84cm long. The mediuml Hooka pipe measures 53cm high (21") with a diameter of approx 14cm. The pipe is 150cm long. The large  Hooka pipe measures 70cm high (27") with a diameter of approx 18cm. The pipe is 180cm long.

Our HOOKAHS are of the highest quality and are made by skilled craftsmen who have been making these water pipes for centuries. There is great skill involved in making these unique smoking devices.

Tobacco mixed with fruit molasses and honey is used when smoking out of a HOOKAH. Other names for this include: tabac, tombak, tumbak, gouza, guza, moassel, SHEESHA, etc. Specifically, the tobacco is a grounded up mixture of dried fruit pulp, flavored molasses, and fresh tobacco leaves. The SHISHA tobacco (also known as SHEESHA) tobacco comes in a variety of flavors including apple, apricot, strawberry, capuccino, mint, cherry, grape, and the list just goes on and on.

We offer a range of Shisha (Nakhla)  tobacco flavours- strawberry, Banana, Peach, Cherry, Apple and two apples. All Nakhia tobacco is in 50 gram packs.

We at HOOKAH AND SHISHA CENTRAL are looking for a new breed of smokers. The HOOKAH (or SHEESHA) is rapidly becoming very fashionable and popular amongst this new generation of smokers. You can gather around with friends and family and become the life of the party.

We guarantee smoking from HOOKA is like no other smoking experience. Check it out and see for yourself!!!!

Setup/Care
1. Fill the base of the hookah with water. Make sure you don't fill it with too much water. The water level should reach approximately 1-1 1/2 inches above the bottom of the metal tube. Therefore the tube is submerged in water.

2. Place long stainless steel tube over the glass or crystal base. Make sure it fits snugly and is airtight. There should be a rubber stopper between the glass/crystal base and the metal center piece.

3. Place the circular tray on top of the hookah metal pipe.

4. Attach the clay bowl to the top of the metal mid-section. Again there should be a plastic grommet between the metal mid-section and the clay bowl.

5. Place hose into the metal mid-section once again with the plastic grommet making sure the connection is air-tight.

6. Test that your setup is airtight by placing your hand on top of the hookah's bowl and then sucking in through the hose. If everything is okay, you should feel a pull at your hand and see bubbles in the water. If either of these two things don't happen, then in all likelihood, you have air escaping from somewhere. Carefully check to find the source.

7. If your setup is airtight, then place some soaked tobacco in the bowl making sure it is level with the rim of the clay bowl. Make sure you sprinkle the tobacco versus packing it in so that the air flow isn't restricted. Also don't let the tobacco level reach over the bowl or overflow. To decrease the harshness you can place foil over the top of the bowl. Cut out a round or square piece of foil about twice the diameter of the bowl and place it over the bowl making sure it is flat and air tight. Then take a tooth pick or a sharp object and punch tiny holes all along the top.

8. Go outside and light your self lighting charcoal. Make sure you hold the charcoal with the hookah clamps provided.

9. When lit bring the charcoal inside, holding it with the clamps and place it on top of the foil. For a longer smoke, place the charcoal on the edge of the bowl and work it around the outside. The center of the bowl is that last place to be touched.

10. Gently pressing down on the charcoal, suck in using the mouthpiece. You should notice smoke building up inside the base and eventually (after a few strong puffs), you should feel the taste of the tobacco in your mouth. It's important to be patient and let the charcoal heat the tobacco.

NOTE: Washing your hookah after every use is highly recommended, especially when changing flavors. Some flavors are stronger than others and the remains of its taste might still be in the hookah if not cleaned. Brush the insides of the metal mid-section with the cleaning kit brush. Also, wash the the glass/crystal base after each use with warm water. Discard any water after each use. Do not run water through the hose. Simply blow into your hose after each use to get rid of residue build up..

Tips/Tricks
1. Try putting ice in the glass base of your hookah and get the water ice cold before smoking. This makes a for a smoother more enjoyable smoking experience.

2. Try mixing lemon juice, orange juice, or some other flavor into the water in your glass base. It will enhance the taste of your hookah smoking experience.

3. You can store your shisha tobacco at room temperature but it must remain in an air tight container (i.e. tupperware, jar, zip lock bag, etc.). This will keep your tobacco from drying up and losing its flavor.

4. When you first start smoking your hookah, try placing the charcoal on the outside of the bowl and working it around the edges of the bowl. The center of the bowl should be the last place your charcoal is placed.

5. Some people smoke the hookah like you would smoke a cigar while other inhale the smoke. Neither way is more correct than the other. It's a preference thing.

6. For a sweeter and perhaps more flavourful smoke, you can add some wine to the top two inches of the water in the base of your hookah. It's a happier smoke, and you can really taste the wine.

7. Because of it's consistency, shisha tends to clump up. Before you pack the bowl, crumble it up in your fingers to spread it out throughout the bowl.

8. Once you get the bowl packed, take a small square of aluminum foil, big enough to cover the open top of the bowl. Wrap the foil over the top so that the surface is tight. Use a toothpick or something else very small to poke a bunch of tiny holes in the foil. Place the charcoal on the foil once its lit. It will still burn the shisha, but it keeps any charcoal taste out.

9. When you place the foil tightly over the hookah bowl, make sure the shiney side is facing down so it will retain more heat from the charcoal.

10. Mixing and matching flavors is a very fun thing to experiment when trying to create the ultimate flavor. Mixing "mint" with other flavors provides for a cool refreshing taste. If you think you have the best flavor then email us your consistency so we can share it with the world.

11. After you're done poking your holes in the foil, cover the top of the clay bowl with the palm of your hand and blow through the bottom of the bowl, then release your hand and blow just a little longer. This prevents any sheesha from getting into the holes of the bowl and makes your hookah pull better.

12. It's good to always blow out the smoke that collects in the glass base every once in a while so the smoke does not become stale. This gets rid of some of the harsh flavor from the stale smoke.

13. It is suggested not to run water through the hose. Simply blow air through the hose after/before each use to blow out the particles inside the hose. Occasionally, use a small amount of water/lemon juice and "swish" it around in your hose.

14. Try putting coke instead of water and use the "cola flavored" shisha tobacco. It really enhances the cola taste.

15. Try mixing mint with capuccino/arabic coffee flavored tobacco. Instead of water put iced coffee with a little bit of milk. This really enhances the capuccino (arabic coffee) flavor.

The ancient water pipe has been used for centuries. It is called by many names, Hookah, Nargile, Shisha, Nargilla, Sheesha….

Hookahs are made for smoking specially prepared tobacco such as Mu'essel, a flavoured mixture of tobacco and treacle as well as fruit. The tobacco can be mixed with apple, apricot, strawberry juice or even wine or cappuccino. Dry tobacco is not used, as it caused irritation to the throat. Other smokers add pomegranate juice or rose oil in their water for added flavour.

Swift-Lite charcoal is being adopted by users in many markets. It is seen as a clean and convenient heat source replacing the more traditional, but difficult to use natural charcoal. Swift Lite charcoal lights instantly and will burn with careful use for up to one hour.

The nargile consists of 4 pieces: Agizlik (mouthpiece), Lüle (the top of the nargile), Marpuç (the tube) and the Gövde (the body of the pipe which is filled with water). All the pieces of the pipe were produced by special craftsmen, who were named after the piece they produced. Even today, the areas where these craftsmen used to concentrate are called by these names, such as "Marpuççular."

From a physical viewpoint, the Hookah uses all the five senses; our vision, as a collectable ornamental art object. Touch through its manipulation. Taste and smell through smoking and hearing by the gurgle of water.
Narghile etiquette includes rules such as never lighting a cigarette from the coals on the hookah. Always rest the hookah on the ground. Never pass the hookah directly to another person, always first put in down and let the next person pick it up.

Rules were created even for lighting the pipe, and if a professional smoker saw anyone lighting it the incorrect way, the culprit would be told in no uncertain term " Do yourself and the sacred nargile a favour and put out the coals by blowing into it."

The nargile smoker hated anyone lighting their cigarettes on their nargile fire because they felt it disturbed the rhythm of the burning charcoal. It was greatly frowned upon if anyone was seen lighting or smoking a nargile not according to the tradition. (from Tierracliente, Nargile : A puff on history reprinted from the Turkish Daily News (3/3/97)

An interesting aspect of Hookah culture is its egalitarianism. Its popularity has transcended class, sex and religion.

A riddle collected in Jordan evokes the feminine narghile figure: Who is this princess standing in her palace with her hand on her hip ? ("'Amîra fî qasrihâ; wa yeduhâ 'elä hasrihâ ?") The pipe bowl is indeed similar to a crown; the baluster body, elegant and rounded, evokes that of a woman. As for the hose curve coiling up around the mast, it can easily be compared to the arm outline. Finally, the palace is a metaphor of the atmosphere in which a narghile session ideally takes place: pillows, tapestries, vegetation, and so on. (The Sacred Nargile)

At the turn of the 20th Century, the Hookah pipe became very popular and fashionable with the Turkish upper class women to be photographed with their pipes. And it had become a significant party status symbol. Western artists had also popularised its exotic image in their Orientalist paintings.

Today, narghile smoking is flourishing in the Arabian-Islamic world as well as in Europe and America. Fashionable new coffee houses, or "neo-Orientalist cafés", are growing in popularity as people discover the smooth, flavoursome taste of the hookah smoke.
